aust

PHILLIPSBURG — The Phillipsburg City Council recently hired Phillipsburg native Scott Aust as the city’s new Community Development Director.

A 1985 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, Aust earned a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University.

For more than 20 years Aust worked as a reporter and editor at newspapers in Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota covering government, growth and development, business and community issues. Most recently, he served as the Director of Communications for Finney County Economic Development Corporation in Garden City, Kan., and also oversaw the operation of the Greater Garden City community information website and social media platforms.

As Community Development Director, Aust’s duties will include overall communication and fundraising for the City of Phillipsburg’s adopted 2030 Vision. He will work closely with the Mayor, City Council, Economic Development Advisory Board, project teams and community leaders to help plan, communicate, direct and implement the vision and strategic plans.

“Phillipsburg’s City Council and Economic Advisory Board are excited to have Scott on board,” Mayor Lance Munyon said. “His background and skill set are necessary in reaching the vision that Phillipsburg residents have established over the past year. I personally look forward to working with Scott on the communication plan and funding for Vision 2030.”

Aust looks forward to visiting with community members and hearing what people feel Phillipsburg needs.

“I am excited about the opportunity to return home and I’m looking forward to working together on advancing the city’s goals for the future,” Aust said. “Phillipsburg has always been a great place to live, work, play and raise a family and the city council’s vision is to enhance and strengthen those qualities.”
